Mayor of Kiev: The risk of death is high, do not return to Kiev for now!

The mayor of Kyiv announced today (Friday) that heavy fighting has broken out in the north and east of the city and called on civilians not to come to Kyiv for the time being.

According to Sky News, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko warned citizens of the Ukrainian capital that the risk of death in Kiev was "very high" and called on civilians who wanted to return to the city to be detained.

The attacks came as the governor of the Kyiv region announced earlier that Russian forces were withdrawing from some areas on the outskirts of the capital.

"The risk of dying in Kiev is very high ... so I advise anyone who intends to return to Kiev to please wait a little longer," Klitschko warned the citizens of Kiev.

Prior to the online talks, Russia had promised to "significantly" reduce its operations in Kiev and Chernihiv during the last round of face-to-face talks in Istanbul.
